ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University basketball team picked up big MIAC win on Saturday afternoon defeating the top-ranked Saint Mary's University Cardinals 68-61 at
Butler Center. The win puts St. Kate's at 7-8 with an MIAC record of 2-6 pushing the Cardinals to a 6-2 MIAC record and 12-4 overall.
After a slow start from St. Kate's trailing five after one, the Wildcats flipped the game in the second. St. Kate's poured in 23 points in the period knocking down five threes taking the 33-27 lead into halftime. Saint Mary's answered after the break making it a one-possession game later in the third but St. Kate's stayed composed taking the game in the finals ten minutes.
Sophomore
Jordyn Peed led with 19 points including three triples while adding two steals.
Hattie Fox provided a huge two-way impact with 15 points, seven boards, and two steals.
Lily Peper chipped in 14 points on 6 of 9 shooting hitting a pair a threes. It was a team effort for 40 minutes making 10 threes, 13 assists and eight steals keeping the Cardinals on their toes.
St. Kate's is home again on Wednesday hosting Carleton at 7 pm at
Butler Center.
