ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University basketball team fell on the road to the College of Saint Benedict 60-50 on Wednesday evening at Claire Lynch Hall. The conference loss puts St. Kate's at 1-6 in the MIAC and 6-8 overall.
The Wildcats trailed 29-23 at halftime after a tough second quarter and the Bennies stretched the margin to 45-35 after three. St. Catherine battled early in the fourth cutting the deficit to 47-45 after a pair of bucks from
Elle Covey and a three from
Hattie Fox. The Bennies answered with timely free throws though plus a three pointer to regain separation and close out the win.
Fox led with 12 points adding two steals and two assists. Covey finished with eleven points and seven boards, while
Lily Peper added nine points and eight boards.
Jordyn Peed chipped in eight points with two blocks while
Olivia Gannon hit a big third-quarter three of the bench.
St. Catherine shot 20 for 47 from the field and 4 for 13 from three, but turnovers proved costly. The Wildcats committed 21 turnovers, which resulted into 27 points for the Bennies.
The Wildcats return to
Butler Center for a 1 pm MIAC match up against the Cardinals from Saint Mary's for the start of a three game home stretch. o
