ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catheirne Univeristy volleyball team opened their home season on Friday evening hosting the University of Wisconsin-Superior as part of the St. Paul Tournament. The non-conference match played at
Butler Center ended in a 3-0 win for the visitors putting St Kate's at 2-3 on the season.
Mallory Johnson had a team best six kills in the match with two blocks and two digs for 7.5 points scored.
Alexa Carlstrom and Addie Preuss each had eight digs with Pruess delivering eleven assists.
The first set was a battle on both sides of the net as the two teams tied the score three times while also posting three lead changes. The Yellowjackets came out on top thanks to their composed attack hitting .324 to the Wildcats .083 attack percentage.
The second set followed with a back and forth performance again with both teams battling to force an error on the other side. St. Kate's pushed until the final points falling by three points at 25-22.
Wisconsin-Superior ran away with the match though in set three taking scoring eleven points in a row to take a quick 17-4 lead. St. Kate's inched back at the end but couldn't overcome the gap falling 25-13.
Day two of the St. Paul tournament starts with the Wildcats hosting the Central College Dutch at 11 am and finishes with the purple and gold taking on Wartburg College at 5 pm.
