EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- The St. Catherine University soccer team continued its strong start to the season with a 2–0 road win over the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire on Tuesday night at Simpson Field. The victory moves the Wildcats to 7–1 overall and 2–0 in conference play.
The Wildcats controlled much of the opening 45 minutes, firing 14 shots and earning four corners. Persistence paid off just before halftime when Emily Olson slotted home her second goal of the year in the 44th minute, finishing a setup from Emily Henaman to give St. Kate's a 1–0 lead heading into the break.
St. Kate's doubled the advantage midway through the second half. In the 65th minute, first-year forward Charlotte Willems found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal, assisted by Bella Meier. The strike capped another wave of pressure, as the Wildcats peppered the Blugolds' defense with 12 more second-half shots.
Goalkeeper Brianna Valdez was sharp between the posts, stopping all six shots on goal to record her first shutout of the season. Anchored by defenders Haley Glass and Jaidyn Richter, the back line limited Eau Claire to just nine total attempts and three second-half shots.
St. Kate's will return to conference play on Saturday as they travel to Minneapolis for a 3:30 pm game at Augsburg University.
