EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- St. Catherine volleyball bounced back from a slow start to earn a 3–1 win over Marian (WI) on Saturday morning at the McPhee Physical Education Center before falling to the No. 10 ranked Warhawks from Wisconsin-Whitewater 3-1.
MATCH ONE | St. Catherine 3, Marian 1
The Wildcats' attack was balanced, with
Marta Haugen leading the way with 15 kills on .355 hitting, while
Madison Fagan added 13 kills and three blocks.
Emily Bredman chipped in 11 kills and three blocks, and
Mallory Johnson posted 10 kills. Setter
Addison Preuss paced the offense with 30 assists, while
Jalyn Wolle dished out 22.
Defensively, St. Kate's dug 78 balls, led by Liz Rosen's 19, and controlled the net with seven team blocks. The Wildcats also served tough, collecting six aces to keep Marian out of rhythm.
MATCH TWO | Wis. Whitewater 3, St. Catherine 1
St. Catherine volleyball showed resilience against No. 10 Wisconsin–Whitewater on Saturday, taking the second set before the Warhawks closed out a 3–1 win (25–21, 23–25, 25–10, 25–12).
The Wildcats evened the match with a 25–23 victory in set two, fueled by strong serving from Liz Rosen (9 kills, 11 digs, 2 aces) and balanced play from Addison Preuss (19 assists). Marta Haugen chipped in 8 kills, while Mallory Johnson and Madison Fagan combined for 7 kills and 5 blocks at the net. Despite the effort, Whitewater's high-powered attack finished with 63 kills and a .311 hitting percentage to seal the match.
St. Kate's travels to Oshkosh, Wisconsin on Saturday, September 20 to face Wisconsin-Oshkosh and the Univeristy of Northwestern-St. Paul.
