Softball picks up MIAC sweep of Carleton

NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team picked up their first MIAC sweep of the season with a pair of wins over Carleton College. St. Kate's took game one 5-3 in eight innings before claiming game two 3-1 in six innings. The second game was halted after the sixth inning due to lack of daylight. Per MIAC and NCAA rules, the Wildcats earn the win having completed more than five complete innings.

GAME ONE | St. Catherine 5, Carleton 3 (8 innings)
Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings, with each side getting a couple of hits but stranding runners. St. Catherine broke the deadlock in the top of the 3rd when Shylah Broga came around to score on a Kylee Kohout RBI single.

Carleton responded in the bottom of the 4th, capitalizing on a bases-loaded opportunity. M. Smith delivered a clutch 3-RBI double to left center, putting Carleton up 3–1.

St. Catherine answered in the top of the 5th. Lucy Mansell's RBI double followed by an error tied things up at 3–3. The game stayed locked until extras, with both teams stranding runners in the late innings.

In the top of the 8th, St. Catherine pulled ahead. Helen McKinnon singled home the go-ahead run, and Annie Cook later scored on a fielding error to make it 5–3. Carleton threatened in the bottom half but couldn't bring home a run, sealing the Wildcats' comeback win.

GAME TWO | St. Catherine 3, Carleton 1 (6 innings)
St. Catherine scored early and held strong, earning a 3–1 win over Carleton in a game called after six innings due to darkness. Kohout sparked the Wildcats with a first-inning run, and a two-run fifth highlighted by Grace Swigar's RBI double—gave St. Kate's the edge. Carleton threatened but left eight runners on base as St. Kate's pitching held firm.

Sarah Christy earned the win in the circle with four strikeouts and allowing zero runs pitching the final three innings.

The Wildcats are scheduled to host the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday, April 12 with a doubleheader set for 1 pm.
