Wildcats split back and forth Sunday doubleheader

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team went one and one on Sunday at St. Kate's Field falling in a non-conference game  12-3 before claiming a 3-2 walk off win in game two against the University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils.

GAME ONE | Wis.- Stout 12, St. Catherine 3
St. Catherine fell behind early and couldn't recover as UW-Stout jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first, taking advantage of an error and a pair of RBI ground outs. The Wildcats responded in the second with a run-scoring single by Lucy Mansell, trimming the deficit to 2-1, but Stout's bats kept rolling. The Blue Devils added two more in the third on a clutch two-RBI double, then broke the game open in the fourth with a five-run inning fueled by a pair of hit batters, a walk, and timely hits to stretch the lead to 9-1.

Despite RBI hits from Annie Cook in the fourth and Faith Bonse in the seventh, St. Catherine couldn't close the gap. UW-Stout tacked on three more runs in the seventh to seal a 12-3 victory. Stout tallied 15 hits and capitalized on four St. Kate's errors, while the Wildcats left eight runners on base in the loss.

GAME TWO | St. Catherine 3, Wis. - Stout 2
St. Catherine edged UW-Stout in game two sealing a 3–2 walk-off victory in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Wildcats struck first in the opening frame when Grace Swigart doubled and came around to score on an RBI single by Bonse. St. Kate's added another in the second with some heads-up base running from Mansell, who crossed the plate after a pair of pickoff attempts to make it 2–0.

UW-Stout chipped away with a run in the third on a double then tied things up in the sixth following an RBI single. With the game knotted at two in the bottom of the seventh, Cook led off with a double and was followed by a single from Mansell. After a strikeout, Shylah Brogan delivered the clutch hit—a single to left—that scored Cook from third for the game-winning run.
