SAINT PETER, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team (16-20, 8-10) picked a MIAC sweep on Tuesday in St. Peter. Game one of the conference doubleheader ended 3-1 in favor of St. Kate's before the wildcats took a 9-3 victory from the Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties (18-16, 8-8 MIAC).
GAME ONE | St. Catherine 3, Gustavus 1
The Wildcats struck in the first with an RBI triple from
Mayci Larson and a run-scoring single by
Grace Swigart. Pitcher Sarah Christ kept the Gusties quiet through four innings before surrendering a run in the fifth. In the seventh,
Lucy Mansell doubled and scored on a clutch RBI single by
Sam Aronson to give St. Kate's insurance. Christy earned her fourth win of the season striking out three while allowing just three hits.
GAME TWO | St. Catherine 9, Gustavus 3
St. Catherine opened with a four-run first inning and never looked back in a 9–3 win over Gustavus Adolphus.The Wildcats used five hits and a Gustie error to jump ahead 4–0, with key RBIs from
Kylee Kohout and
Sam Aronson. After Gustavus cut it to 6–3, St. Kate's pulled away in the seventh as Mansell and Kohout delivered back-to-back doubles to drive in three more.
Alexa Carlstrom earned the win in the circle for her fourth of the season striking out one and allowing just two runs.
St. Kate's will travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota on Friday to face the Augsburg University Auggies before closing out the regular season at Concordia College in Moorhead on Saturday.
