ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team split MIAC wins with the Macalester College Scots on Senior Day. On a day recognizing
Sydney Colbert and
Sarah Posey, St. Kate's claimed the first game 8-1 before falling 9-5 in 8 innings in the second game. The Wildcats fall to 14-20 with an MIAC mark of 6-10.
GAME ONE | St. Catherine 8, Macalester 1
Macalester struck first with a steal at home in the top of the first, but St. Catherine took control from there. The Wildcats tied it in the third and broke it open with a five-run fourth, highlighted by
Helen McKinnon's two-RBI double. McKinnon added another RBI single in the fifth to cap the scoring.
McKinnon hit 2 for 3 with one double, one run and three RBI in the win as
Sarah Christy pitched a complete game with five strikeouts and allowing just one hit.
GAME TWO | Macalester 9, St. Catherine 5 (8 innings)
St. Catherine grabbed an early lead with a run in the second and cut the deficit to 4–3 after five. McKinnon sparked the Wildcats with two hits and two RBIs, while
Grace Swigart added an RBI single. But Macalester pulled away with a five-run eighth inning to seal the win.
St. Catherine closes out the regular season on the road as travel to Gustavus Adolphus on Tuesday, April 22. After that, they will face Augsburg University before finishing at Concordia College.
