Wildcats drop doubleheader to Royals

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team dropped a MIAC doubleheader to the Bethel University Royals on Wedneday afternoon at St. Kate's Field. The pair of losses puts St. Kate's at 13-17 overall with conference record of 5-7.

GAME ONE | Bethel 10, St. Catherine 1 (6 innings)
St. Catherine battled throughout but couldn't overcome Bethel's early offensive surge in a 10–1 loss. The Wildcats got on the board in the fifth with a sacrifice fly from Helen McKinnon and showed flashes at the plate with five hits, including a double from Faith Bonse. Despite some tough breaks and Bethel capitalizing on a few errors, St. Catherine continued to fight, putting runners on in multiple innings and making solid contact against a strong Royals lineup.

GAME TWO | Bethel 8, St. Catherine 6
Game two was back-and-forth battle against with the Royals, rallying from an early 3–0 deficit to tie the game at 5–5 in the fifth inning. Big hits from Bonse, who drove in two with a clutch double, and Grace Swigart, who notched two RBI, helped fuel the Wildcats' comeback. The defense held strong in key moments, and the offense kept the pressure on with nine hits overall. Despite a late Bethel push, the Wildcats continued to fight to the final out in a hard-fought 8–6 game.

St. Kate's travels to Duluth on Thursday to face the College of St. Scholastica in an MIAC doubleheader scheduled for noon. They return home on Saturday, April 19 for Senior Day hosting Macalester for a 1 pm doubleheader.
