WINONA, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University tennis team improved to 3-1 in conference play after a dominant defeat of the Saint Mary's University Cardinals with a match score of 8-1. The Wildcats' claimed all six points in singles while taking two of three doubles matches over Saint Mary's while in Winona.
In doubles action, the Wildcats took the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches over Saint Mary's starting the conference match up 2-1.
Kelsey Dorr and Caitlyn Stradter cruised to an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles while
Monica Zink and
Ashley King matched that scoreline with an 8-3 defeat at No. 3 The Cardinals managed to claim the No. 2 doubles match as
Faith Simon and
Erica Wing were edged out, 8-6.
St. Kate's carried that momentum into singles play, sweeping all six matches. At No. 1 Dorr continued her stellar day with a commanding 6-1, 6-4 win Simon followed suit at No. 2 with a 6-3,-6-1 win. Stadter was dominant at No. 3, conceding just two game in a 6-1, 6-1 triumph of the Cardinals.
The finals three matches saw more of the same from St. Kate's. Zink battled through a tough second set to earn a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 4, while
Liliana Holmberg rolled to the 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5.
Marie Pelletier capped off the sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles remaining undefeated on the season.
The Wildcats will host the College of St. Scholastica on Friday, March 28 at Baseline Tennis Center. The MIAC match is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
