ORLANDO, Fla. -- St. Catherine University tennis battle to another 4-3 victory to extend their win streak to three with a closely contested win over Sweet Briar College on Wednesday morning. The non-conference win played at the USTA National Campus in Orlando improved St. Kate's record to 7-1 on the season.Â
St. Kate's came out strong in doubles, winning two of the three matches. The No.1 doubles pair of Kelsey Dorr and Caitlyn Stadter defeated Ana Patino and Alex Guilarte in a competitive 7-5 match. Faith Simon and Erica Wing took a commanding 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Isadora Lima and Juli Caracciolo. However, Sweet Briar managed to take the No. 3 doubles match as Lucia Bovard and Maggie Minton secured a 6-2 victory over Monica Zink and Ashley King.Â
With the Wildcats claiming two of the three doubles matches, they earned the doubles point heading into singles play.
Dorr put in a strong performance at No. 1 singles, defeating Guilarte 6-3, 6-2, while Liliana Holmberg added another St. Kate's win at No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Minton. Marie Pelletier sealed the win for the Wildcats at No. 6 singles, defeating Bovard 7-5, 6-2.
The Vixens turned the tide in singles competition, winning three of the six matches. Patino won at No. 2 singles, defeating Simon 6-1, 6-0. Caracciolo followed up with a hard-fought victory at No. 3 singles, winning 6-1, 7-6 (5) over Stadter. Zink played a hard fought battle at No. 4 taking the first set 6-0 before falling 7-5, 6-4 in the final two sets.Â
St. Kate's will play NCAA Division II opponent Minnesota State University, Moorhead on Thursday in Orlando to close out their spring break competition.Â
