ORLANDO, Fla. -- The St. Catherine University tennis team opened competition in Florida with a 4-3 defeat of the Piedmont University Lions at Sylvan Lake. The Wildcats handed the Lions their first loss of the season as they improve to 6-1 overall.
St. Kate's earned the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
Kelsey Dorr and Cailtyn Stadter swept their opponent 6-0 at No. 1 while
Ashley King and
Erica Wing won 6-1 at No. 3 doubles. The Lions won the No. 2 doubles match over
Monica Zink and
Faith Simon 6-3.
The Wildcats three other points were scored at No. 1 , No. 5 and No. 6 singles to earn the win. Dorr remains undefeated at No. 1 taking down her opponent 6-1, 6-1.
Liliana Holmberg won 6-3, 6-4 over the Lions No. 5 singles and
Marie Pelletier won her match 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 to also remain undefeated in singles competition.
Piedmont scored their first of three points at No. 2 over Simon (6-3, 6-0) followed by taking the No. 3 singles match in a tiebreaker as Stadter fell 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (6-3). The final point was from the No. 4 singles match with Zink falling in a tiebreaker set 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (6-2).
The Wildcats will host Sweet Briar College on Wednesday, March 12 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
