ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherin8-e University basketball team improved to 2-0 after a dominate 68-49 road win over crosstown rival Macalester in a non-conference early season match up.
The Wildcats outscored the Scots 50–8 in the paint and forced 21 turnovers while racking up 16 steals, building an early lead and never looking back. St. Kate's shot 43 percent from the field and held Macalester to just 26 percent shooting overall.
Hattie Fox paced the offense with 22 points on 7-of-18 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers and 6-of-8 from the line, while
Jordyn Peed poured in 20 points, adding 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and a block in a complete all-around performance.
Kristen Oberle contributed 8 points, 6 steals, and 4 rebounds, energizing the Wildcats' defensive pressure.
Lily Peper added 7 points and 3 boards, and
Elle Covey anchored the post with 6 rebounds and a block.
St. Kate's defense set the tone early, forcing five turnovers in the opening minutes to spark a 20–14 first-quarter lead. The Wildcats extended their advantage to 39–27 at halftime and never allowed the Scots within single digits after the break, holding Macalester to just one field goal in the fourth quarter.
The Wildcats dominated transition and second-chance opportunities, outscoring Macalester 18–10 off turnovers and 11–6 on second-chance points.
