ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team kept its unbeaten start rolling with a dominant 6–2 victory over Wisconsin–Stevens Point on Friday night.
The Wildcats struck first midway through the opening period when
Lilly Gillespie buried her third goal of the season off a setup from
Ellie Skaja. Moments later,
Lauren Schmidt added a short-handed tally at 15:57 to give St. Kate's a 2–0 lead after one.
Stevens Point converted on a power play early in the second, but the Wildcats answered quickly.
Rhiannon Ashworth netted the game-winner at 8:35, and
Michelle Smith followed with a power-play strike later in the frame to make it 4–1 heading into the third.
Ana Myers extended the lead with a pair of third-period goals — including a short-handed empty-netter — to seal the 6–2 win.
Emma Keith and Skaja each added assists, while
Lea Grassia was sharp in net with 33 saves for her second victory of the season.
The Wildcats outshot the Pointers 46–35 and went 1-for-3 on the power play, improving to 3–0–0 on the season. St. Catherine closes out the weekend series with a Saturday afternoon rematch at Stevens Point at 2 pm.
