STEVENS POINT, Wis. — The St. Catherine University hockey team took their first loss of the season falling 3-1 to Wisconsin-Stevens Point on the road. St. Kate's is 3-1-0 on the season opening conference play in their next series.
After a scoreless opening period, the Pointers broke through with three goals in the second frame — including two on the power play — before the Wildcats answered late in the period.
Paige Loidolt scored her first goal of the season at 18:50 of the second, finishing a feed from
Autumn Burt to put St. Kate's on the board and cut the deficit to 3–1.
The Wildcats kept the pressure on from there, outshooting UWSP 18–9 in the final period and 47–23 overall, but Pointer goaltender Anne Beck turned aside 46 shots to secure the win and earn second-star honors.
Between the pipes,
Addie Oettinger stopped 20 shots for the Wildcats, including several key saves in the first and third periods. The St. Kate's defense blocked six shots, highlighted by strong play from
Sara Cooney,
Emma Keith, and
Isabella Brady.
St. Catherine moves to 3-1-0 on the young season and open the MIAC season on Friday, November 14 at Bethel University. The Wildcats return home on Saturday, November 15 hosting the Royals for game two of the conference series.
