ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Catherine University volleyball bounced back after a narrow first-set loss to take the next three, defeating Saint Mary's 3-1 Friday night inside
Butler Center. The win moves the Wildcats to 8-13 overall and 4-3 in MIAC play.
After falling in a tight opener that featured 13 ties, St. Kate's found its rhythm offensively behind a balanced attack and steady setting. The Wildcats hit .375 in the third set and out-blocked the Cardinals 11-4 on the night.
Liz Rosen led the charge with 14 kills, 18 digs, and three aces, recording her fifth double-double of the season. Marta Haugen also tallied 14 kills while hitting .216, and Mallory Johnson added 10 kills and five blocks. Setters Addison Preuss and Jalyn Wolle combined for 46 assists, steering the offense efficiently through the final three frames.
Defensively, Maneeje Mostaghimi anchored the back row with 18 digs, and Emily Bredman contributed five blocks and an ace. The Wildcats' front line tallied 22 block assists, frustrating the Saint Mary's offense that was held to a .037 hitting percentage.
With the win, St. Kate's stays in the thick of the MIAC playoff race. The Wildcats return to action Saturday, traveling to Northfield to face St. Olaf College at 3 pm before taking on non-conference foe, Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 5 pm.
