ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University basketball team secured a key MIAC win on Wednesday evening at
Butler Center downing the Concordia College Cobbers 63-53. The win moves the Wildcats to 9-9 overall with an MIAC record of 4-7 with seven conference games remaining on the schedule.
In a dominating fashion the Wildcats put their game in Moorhead behind them led by sophomore
Hattie Fox with 20 points, nine rebounds shooting 8 for 9 from the charity line.
Jordyn Peed added ten points and
Emme Golembiewski put up nine boards, five blocks and ten points.
Concordia took an early lead in the opening frame before the Peed led the Wildcats comeback plus a good three pointer from
Lily Peper tied the game at 10-10. Peed gave St. Kate's the lead and never looked back taking an eight point cushion into the second quarter. The Wildcats continued to build the advantage in the second with key moments from
Maddie Young and Fox ending the second half with a 14-point lead holding Concordia to just ten points in the quarter.
The Cobbers found a glimpse of momentum coming out the half holding St. Kate's to five as they put up 12 points but it wasn't enough to overcome the Wildcats offense who delivered their best quarter in the fourth adding 22 points and building a 15 point advantage with under four minutes to play. Concordia made one final run scoring nine points in the final two minutes but Fox sealed the win for the Wildcats with four free throws in the final 15 seconds.
St. Kate's will travel to St. Olaf College in Northfield on Saturday to face the Oles at 3 pm. They will return to
Butler Center on Saturday, February 8 for senior day taking on the Carleton College Knights.
