ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University basketball team fell to Macalester College on Wednesday evening inside of
Butler Center. The 66-52 loss was the Wildcats' fifth MIAC loss this season as they sit 7-7 overall on top of the 2-5 MIAC record.
Rookie
Jordyn Peed led with 15 points with four rebounds as
Maddie Young and
Hattie Fox each added 13 a piece. Young put up seven rebounds while Fox added eight plus five steals and two assists.
Emme Golembiewski contributed nine boards with six points scored and three assists.
The first quarter was back and forth with multiple lead changes as St. Kate's took control at 9-8 thanks to a layup form Peed. Macalester responded with capitalizing on the Wildcats' turnovers taking the five point lead into the second.
Missed shots were the theme of the second quarter on both ends of the court. Young and
Lily Peper added key baskets including a clutch three pointer from Peper but the Scots defense was too much for the Wildcats leading 35-23 going into the half.
Fox and Peper put up strong efforts in the third quarter but Macalester still got the best of St. Kate's holding the 16 point lead with ten to play in the conference game.
The Wildcats fought hard in the final minutes with key plays from Peed and Fox. Depsite posting their best quarter of the game, the Wildcats struggled to close the gap hindered by the cushion the Scots added in the first 30 minutes of play.
St. Kate's will travel to Hamline on Saturday facing the Pipers for a 3 pm MIAC match up.
