Wildcats split wins on second day in Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. -- The St. Catherine University volleyball team split wins on Saturday at the UW-Oshkosh Invite claiming a win over Aurora University 3-0 before falling in their final match to UW-Stevens Point in straight sets. 

MATCH ONE | St. Catherine 3, Aurora 0
The match opened with strong offensive plays from both sides, including key kills from Liz Rosen. Aurora initially took the lead with consecutive service aces but St. Catherine responded with solid plays, including service aces by Lexie Petrick, which brought them back into the game. Late in the set, St. Catherine capitalized on Aurora's errors and closed the game with a decisive kill by Emily Bredman, securing a narrow 25-23 victory.

Set two followed with the Wildcats taking advantage of errors from the Spartans again while St. Catherine's consistency shone through, with Rosen and Bredman making crucial plays down the stretch. Bredman sealed the win for St. Catherine with a service ace and kill, clinching the set at 25-19. 

The final set was a nail biter as both teams battled point for point. As the set extended into extra points, both teams struggled with service errors and attack errors, highlighting the high-stakes tension of the game. In the end, St. Catherine clinched the set with a service ace from Petrick, winning 28-26 in a thrilling finish.

MATCH TWO | UW-Stevens Point 3, St. Catherine 0
The Wildcats second match of the day was tightly contested with the Wildcats coming up short in set one 25-22. St. Kate's wasn't able to overcome the momentum in set two as the Pointers claimed the set 25-21 and fell again in the final set 25-18. 

Brenna Essig led the Wildcats defensively with 18 digs and two aces while Petrick recorded 17 digs and six kills. 

The Wildcats are on the road again next weekend traveling to Eau Claire, Wisconsin for the Sandy Schumacher Invite Friday and Saturday.
