Tennis finishes exhibition weekend at Gustavus

| Box Score 2 SAINT PETER, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University tennis team competed in the Gustavus Fall Invite Saturday for doubles play followed by the singles matches on Sunday in Saint Peter. 

Graduate student Kelsey Dorr played with first-year Caitlyn Stadter in doubles draw one taking down Grinnell's pair 8-7 (5). Dorr and Stadter fell in the semifinal round to De Bruijn and Elvestrom of Gustavus 8-3. After their loss, the duo defeated Gustavus' Haddoff and Yakimova. 

Erica Wing and Faith Simon defeated Gu and Felderman from Minnesota State University-Moorhead in round one 8-4 before falling in the semifinal round to De Young and Omar from Gustavus 8-1. Lilliana Holmberg and Ashley King faced Packer and Gustavson from Gustavus who defeated the pair 8-2 moving them to the second round of doubles draw four. Holmberg and King won against Gustvaus' team of Key and Wright 8-3 before defeating Bluedorn and Lemke from University of Sioux Falls 8-2 in the third round. 

Dorr was the consolation champion of the first singles draw falling in her first match to Kaya De Bruijn, 6-4, 4-6, 4-10. Dorr went on to defeat Shaelyn Johnson from MN State Moorhead 6-1, 6-4 before claiming her last match 6-0, 4-6, 10-6 over Luzmary Diaz from MN State Moorhead. 

Simon played in singles draw two falling in round one to Noor Omar 6-0, 6-0 and was defeated again in the consolation semifinal to Alli Laux 6-1, 6-3. Stadter was defeated in the first round of singles draw three 6-0, 6-1 to Ella De Young of Gustavus before taking a loss to Sydney Martin from Grinnell in the consolation semifinal 6-4, 6-4. 

Holmberg and King each competed in singles draw six with Holmberg falling 3-6, 6-1, 5-10 to Ashley Stroebel from Gustavus. Holmberg moved to the consolation semifinal where she defeated Audrey Hanson from Sioux Falls before falling in the final to Rika Cross from Gustavus 6-2, 3-6, 2-10. King won her first match over Kara Termaat 6-2, 6-1 and defeated Gustavus' Annie Klemmensen 4-6, 6-2, 10-7. King fell in the championship final to Bethany Smith from Gustavus 6-0, 7-6 (6).

Wing and Marie Pelletier faced each other in the consolation final of singles draw seven with Wing taking the match. Wing dropped her first match to Taylor Ruhl from Gustavus 6-3, 6-4 and advanced to the final as a result of a walkover in the consolation semifinal round. Pellitier fell in round one to Tyra Gustavson from Gustavus 6-1, 6-2 and defeated Allison Bluedorn 7-5, 6-1. 

The Wildcats return to Saint Peter for the ITA Regional Championships September 20-23.
