Second half surge leads Wildcats to 3-1 win over Stevens Point

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University soccer team opened the 2024 season with a 3-1 non-conference victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday at St. Kate's Field to remain undefeated all-time against the Pointers.

The Pointers found the back of the net in the ninth minute of play sneaking one past fifth-year goalkeeper Kate Praetz holding the lead until the 55th minute. Stevens Point was assessed a yellow card for a handball in the box giving the Wildcats a PK opportunity with graduate student Ari Green awarded the chance. Green was successful in her attempt scoring the team's first goal of the regular season to tie the game at 1-1.

Less than ten minutes later, Kallie Tuominen scored the game-winner with an assist from rookie Emily Olson for her first collegiate point. Fellow first-year Lydia Benson scored her first collegiate goal unassisted in the 81st minute giving the team a cushion with nine minutes left to play.

Green led the shot count tallying three shots on goal in 84 minutes on the pitch. Off the bench, Natalie Pfleger and Sydney Nelson each added two on goal. Praetz made three saves in the game allowing just one goal early.

St. Kate's continues it's border battle series Saturday, September 7 hosting UW-Eau Claire before hosting UW-Oshkosh on September 8.
