ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Catherine University head swimming and diving coach,
Jordyn Wentzel '23 announced the return of diving to the Wildcats program welcoming former coach Gary Mansergh back to lead the divers for the 2024-25 season. Mansergh served as the Wildcat diving coach from 1987-1992 under the leadership of Dave Luedtke before spending time at the University of St. Thomas and Macalester College.
"I am excited to be returning to St. Catherine University as a diving coach", said Mansergh. " I hope to make a positive impact on the St. Kate's divers the way my coaches had an impact on me."
In his time coaching at the collegiate level, Mansergh guided several of his athletes to appear at the NCAA Division III Championships, where three were awarded All-America honors with two earning All-America Honorable Mention. Along with his collegiate coach experience, Mansergh has also spent time coaching at the high school level, most recently at Coon Rapids High School for ten seasons. Mansergh stepped away from coaching to pursue his doctorate degree in Educational Leadership and to spend more time with his family.
Wentzel said, "We are excited to have Gary join the coaching staff and look forward to bringing our diving program back. Diving is very important to the success of our program and we are thrilled to have someone with Gary's coaching experience join our program."
The Wildcat diving program returns from taking a hiatus after the 2019-2020 season with Gabby Page earning MIAC Diver of the Year as a senior in 2019.
The Wildcats swimming and diving program begins competition Saturday, October 19 with the divers headed to Hamline University while the swimmers host their annual pentathlon at Butler Center Pool.
