Wildcats earn MIAC sweep with pair of walk off wins

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team picked up their first MIAC sweep of the season with a pair of walk off wins over the College of Saint Scholastica on Friday at St. Kate's Field. St. Kate's improves to 8-12 on the season and is now 2-2 in the conference. 

GAME ONE | St. Catherine 7, St. Scholastica 6 (8 innings)
Game one between St. Scholastica and St. Catherine was a thrilling start to the Wildcats home season going to extra innings to come back twice for the team's first walk off win of the day. St. Catherine broke the deadlock in the bottom of the fourth inning, with Serena Lee hitting a double and later scoring on a single by Annie Cook. St. Scholastica responded in the top of the sixth inning tying the game at 2-2.

The game remained tied until the top of the seventh inning when St. Scholastica scoring on an error followed by another error for the purple and gold and the Saints extending their lead to 4-2.

St. Catherine fought back in the bottom of the seventh inning, with  Helen McKinnon hitting a double and later scoring on a single by Cook, cutting the deficit to 4-3. The game remained tight until the top of the seventh inning when St. Scholastica scored two improving their lead to 6-3.

St. Catherine mounted a comeback in the bottom of the inning, with Mayci Larson pinch-running for Kaitlin Boyles and later scoring on a double by Kylee Kohout. Kohout then scored on an error, tying the game at 6-6. Cook later hit a single, scoring Lee for the win. 

Despite a valiant effort, St. Scholastica was unable to score in the top of the ninth inning, and St. Catherine held on for a thrilling 7-6 victory. 

Sarah Christy was the winning pitcher in game one pitching a complete game facing 36 batters recording six strikeouts. 

GAME TWO | St. Catherine 5, St. Scholastica 4
Boyles got things started in game two cutting the 3.5 inning standstill with her first home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth going up 1-0. The Wildcat defense held onto the lead until the Saints posted a four run inning in top of the sixth going up 4-1. St. Kate's closed out the sixth inning adding one run off three hits. 

Lee posted her first homer of the season knotting it up at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh. The second walk off was the result of Cook driving in Kylee Kohout for the 5-4 victory. 

Sydney Colbert earns the win in the game entering in the sixth inning adding one strikeout to the box score. Taylor Graf was in the circle for the first five inning tallying three strikeouts. 

St. Kate's travels to Northfield facing St. Olaf on Saturday for a MIAC doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
