Wildcats split with Gusties at home

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team split wins with MIAC leader, Gustavus Adolphus College on Tuesday afternoon, falling in game one 8-4 before claiming game two 5-1. St. Kate's maintains their hopes for a  MIAC playoff berth with four regular season conference games on the schedule. St. Kate's is now 12-23 overall with a conference record of 6-12. 

GAME ONE | Gustavus Adolphus 8, St. Catherine 4
Kylee Kohout kicked off scoring in the bottom of the second with her fourth home run of her sophomore season going up 1-0. The Gusties added a run in the top of the fourth before taking a one run lead in the top of the fifth. Gustavus added five runs in the top of the sixth taking a commanding 8-1 lead. St. Kate's was able to add three runs in the bottom of the seventh cutting the lead in half but was unable to cover the deficit created in the sixth inning. 

GAME TWO | St. Catherine 5, Gustavus Adolphus 1
Rookie pitcher, Taylor Graf earned her first collegiate win in the circle playing a complete game with four strikeouts while allowing just five hits facing 29 batters. The Wildcats added a run right away in the bottom of the opening frame as Annie Cook drove Taylor Brunn home. Sam Aronson scored the Wildcats second run off a sac fly to left field from Mayci Larson. Helen McKinnon brought in two runs with Brunn and Kaitlin Boyles crossing home in the bottom of the fifth before Cook brought in McKinnon again as the result of an error by the Gusties shortstop. Gustavus added their lone run in the top of the seventh off a bad bounce at second causing an error and driving in a run. 

Larson hit 2 for 2 with one RBI as Aronson was 2 for 3. 

St. Catherine has two games remaining on the schedule with Concordia Moorhead scheduled first followed by Augsburg.
