Softball falls to Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team traveled down the road to Macalester College on Saturday afternoon for a conference doubleheader hosted by the Scots. St. Kate's dropped both contests to Macalester for a 5-11 MIAC record.

GAME ONE | Macalester 4, St. Catherine 3
St. Catherine was on the board first as Annie Cook hit a single up the middle to drive in Helen McKinnon. The Scots answered with a run in the bottom of the first to knot it at 1-1. McKinnon's single in the top of the third added another run for St. Kate's but the Scots responded with a three run homer to go up by two.

The Wildcats made an attempt to comeback in the top of the sixth with Mayci Larson combining with Tori Vennamann who was pinch running for Kaitlin Boyles to add one. However, that was the final run scored in the game for the 4-3 win for Macalester.

GAME TWO | Macalester 10, St. Catherine 6
McKinnon started scoring in game two with a double to drive in Taylor Brunn. Cook followed with the same hit bringing in McKinnon again taking a quick two run lead. The Scots answered with two runs in the bottom of the first. St. Kate's took the lead again in the second before taking a three run advantage in the top of the third.

Macalester went on to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth before Vennemann scored the tying run in the top of the fifth. Vennemann's run would be the final run again for the Wildcats as the Scots went on to add four in the bottom of the sixth to claim the win.

Next up for St. Kate's is a home series on Tuesday, April 23 against Gustavus Adolphus College starting at 3:30 pm.
