ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team played their final non-conference game of the season traveling to the University of Northwestern-St. Paul on Friday afternoon for one game at Reynolds Field. The game ended in a 6-5 result with the Eagles coming out on top after the Wildcats scored all five of their runs in the final two innings.
Neither team was successful until the bottom of the third inning with Northwestern getting on the board first. The Eagles increased the lead with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth.
With
Lynae Doty at the plate, the Wildcats drove in Annie Cook in the bottom of the sixth. Kaitlin Boyles followed bringing in two more runs getting Doty and
Sam Aronson runs and taking the lead 3-2. Northwestern answered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth claiming a 6-3 advantage with an inning to play.
St. Kate's put up a solid effort scoring two more with
Mayci Larson and
Taylor Brunn scoring unearned runs for the 6-5 final.
The Wildcats travel to MIAC rival, College of Saint Benedict on Saturday afternoon before returning home on Sunday to host Hamline University for a conference doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
