ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team made a huge turnaround from game one against the St. Olaf Oles, shutting them out 3-0 at Drake Arena on Saturday afternoon. The win puts St. Kate's at 6-14-1 overall with a conference record of 2-11-1.
"It finally all come together today", said head coach
Brad Marshall. "It was a solid 60 minutes of consistent play and great to have some success because of the team believing and staying positive."
It was nearly a carbon copy of Friday's game but in favor of St. Kate's as they scored their first goal six minutes into the opening period. Senior
Gabby Bodin found the back of the net with help from
Lauren Henriksen and
Julia Wilson.
It was another scoreless second period with the Wildcats leading the shot chart 15-6. Rookie
Sarah Wangen gave the Wildcats the 2-0 lead off an assist from sophomore
Raechel Painovich with less than five to play.
The Oles pulled their goalie with three minutes remaining as Henriksen took advantage of the empty net off a pass from
Maiah Robert.
Sophomore
Anna Friendshuh earned her first career shutout in net with her second overall win making 24 saves.
The Wildcats travel to Blaine, Minnesota on Friday, February 9 facing Bethel University for game one of the conference series before returning to Drake Arena for Senior Day on Saturday, February 10 at 2 pm.
