BLAINE, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team dropped a heart breaker in overtime to Bethel University at Bethel University Arena inside of the National Sport Center. The overtime loss puts the Wildcats at 6-15-1 with an MIAC record of 2-12-1.
Isabel Burt scored the Wildcats first goal in the last second of the first period after the Royals took a quick lead in the first minute before taking a two-goal advantage with nine minutes left. Burt's goal was assisted by
Joslin Mumm and
Josie VanKuyk.
With five minutes left in the second period,
Julia Wilson scored the game tying goal with an assist from senior
Gabby Bodin. Just two minutes later,
Halle Dunleavy gave the Wildcats the 3-2 lead on a power play with help from Mumm and
Lilly Gillespie.
St. Kate's remained on top until Bethel tied it again two minutes into the third and forcing overtime before scoring two minutes into the extra period.
The Wildcats return to Drake Arena on Saturday hosting Bethel for game two of the conference series at 2 pm. The team will recognize the graduating student-athletes in addition to hosting Sophie Squad Mental Health Awareness activities.
