ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University basketball team completed the MIAC sweep over the St. Olaf College Oles on Senior Day 64-39. The day honored lone senior
Karis Zezza and advances the Wildcats to 14-6 overall with a MIAC record of 9-5 sitting third overall in the conference.
Sophomore
Maddie Young led the way with ten points to go with her three rebounds and two assists. Behind her was
Hattie Fox putting up nine going 4 for 4 at the free throw line along with four boards. Zezza added seven points and seven rebounds while Schimnowski had six points, eight rebounds and one assist.
Schimnowski gave the Wildcats a six point lead after the first quarter sinking a three with just 12 seconds left after the Oles inched their way within one in the last minute of the quarter. In the second, the Wildcats built a 13 point cushion but the Oles cut it to ten sinking a fast break three pointer with just 15 seconds left in the half.
The lead grew to 18 in the third quarter before building their largest advantage in the fourth getting ahead by 27 points with just a minute to play. The Oles were able to cut it to 25 closing out the game with a jump shot for the 64-39 final.
St. Catherine will travel to Bethel University on Monday, February 5 for a MIAC game at 7 pm. The last time the two met was December 6, 2023 as the Wildcats defeated the Royals 58-53, snapping the match-ups 13 game losing streak.
