Loidolt, Dunleavy lead in Wildcats 4-2 loss to Saint Mary's

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team was defeated in game two of the Minnesota Intercollegaite Athletic Conference (MIAC) series with the Saint Mary's University Cardinals on Saturday afternoon. The 4-2 loss to the Cardinals puts St. Kate's at 2-5 with an MIAC record of 1-3. 

Saint Mary's added their first goal on a wrap around scramble in front of the net in the third minute of the first period scoring their second five minutes later. 

Junior Pagie Loidolt cut the lead in half finding the back of the net with just over nine to play in the period off a pass a the blue line from Halle Dunleavy. Saint Mary's responded though scoring a third goal with four left on the board. 

Neither team was successful in scoring in the second period but Dunleavy was able to put St. Kate's on the board again two minutes into the third. The Wildcats held the Cardinals off again for the next 15 minutes of play but they were able to add one more after an empty net goal with less than a minute on the clock. 

Junior goaltender, Anna Friendshuh appeared in net for 59:11 making 32 saves in the contest. Paige Fasching and Sarah Wangen led with blocks recording four and three respectively. Loidolt led in shots along with rookie Ana Myers, each adding three a piece to the box score. 

St. Kate's has one more MIAC series remaining in 2024 as they travel to Northfield on Thursday, December 5 to face the St. Olaf College Oles and turn around on Saturday to host the Oles on December 7 at Drake Arena in St. Paul.
