WINONA, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team dropped game one of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) series with the Saint Mary's University Cardinals by a score of 3-0.
The Cardinals were on the board right away scoring at 1:17 in the opening period. Saint Mary's took a two goal lead with less than four minutes remaining in the first period. The Cardinals added one final empty net goal with less than a minute to play in the third period as the Wildcats held them off for over 40 minutes of play.
Rookie goaltender,
Addie Oettinger made 37 saves in the game allowing just two goals in the game including a 16 save first period.
Samantha Bogen and
Halle Dunleavy led St. Kate's on the shot chart each firing off three on net.
Sara Cooney also had a big night with three blocks.
The Wildcats host the Cardinals on Saturday at Drake Arena with puck drop scheduled for 2 pm.
