Wildcats get reverse sweep win on Senior Day

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University volleyball team wrapped up their regular season home slate celebrating two career milestones and the trio of seniors in the process. The Wildcats win streak continues with the reverse sweep of the visiting Carleton College Knights putting the team at 9-1 in conference play, which is the most MIAC wins in program history surpassing their 8-3 season in 2022.

To start the match, the St. Kate's athletic department honored the multitude of honors the senior class has contributed to over the past four seasons. On top of recognizing seniors Brenna Essig, Lucia Neuman, and Lexie Petrick, the Wildcat coaching staff celebrated Neumans 1,000 career assist achievement and Petrick's all-time program leading service aces record.

In dramatic fashion, the team punched their ticket to the MIAC Playoffs with a first round bye in addition to hosting the semifinal round. Junior Mallory Johnson had a career best 19 kills in the five set match with an attack percentage of  .362. Essig led in digs with 20 to go with her five assists and Neuman posted three aces and one kill on top of her 31 assists and eleven digs. Petrick recorded another double double scoring 20 points with 15 kills with 16 digs and six blocks. Madison Fagan had a match best eight blocks with five kills while Claudia Chmielewski had seven blocks and five kills.

In total, the match was tied a total of 33 times with 19 lead changes as St. Kate's fought back after falling in the first two sets to Carleton.

The Wildcats will travel to St. Peter next Saturday facing the conference leading Gustavus Adolphus Golden Gusites for the MIAC Regular Season Championship Title and to determine the Wildcats fate in the MIAC playoff seeding.
