ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to the Bethel University Royals in the MIAC conference opener on Friday evening at Drake Arena in St. Paul.
St. Kate's struck first with a first period goal from sophomore forward
Lilly Gillespie. Gillespie's goal was assisted by junior center
Ellie Skaja and first-year forward
Ana Myers with 16:28 left in the first.
The Royals tallied their first goal off with the Wildcats on the penalty kill at 12:55 in the first. The Royals posted the game winner a minute into the third for the 2-1 final.
Myers tallied five shot on goal in the game finishing plus one while Gillespie posted four to finish plus one as well. Sophomore
Lea Grassia claimed the loss making 19 saves.
St. Kate's travels to the SuperRink on Saturday for game two of the conference series at 7 pm.
