Wildcats shut down Oles 78-49

NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University basketball team improve to 5-3 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) with a commanding 78-49 win over St. Olaf College at Skoglund Center in Northfield. The win is the first for the Wildcats over the Oles since the 2021-22 season. 

Rookie Hattie Fox led the way with a career-best 22 points, her ninth double digits game of the season. She went 11 for 11 from the free throw line, another career-best  with eight rebounds. Fox ranks third in the MIAC so far this season with 163 points scored while leading the MIAC for made free throws making 61 of 70 attempts in eleven games. 

Fox wasn't alone in the double digits collum with three others adding eleven points each. Sophomore Emme Golembiewski added eleven points, eight rebounds, four steals and three blocks. Golembiewski is also at the top of the leader board in the MIAC with the most blocked shots averaging 2.4 per game for a total of 26. 

Rachel Randleman and Kaylee Miron were the others with added eleven to the box score. Randleman added two rebounds and two assists while Miron had one assist. 

St. Kate's dominated throughout the contest building a ten point lead after the first. St. Olaf put on their best performance in the second quarter outscoring St. Kate's by seven  but still trailing by three headed into the half. 

The Wildcats answered with their best performance in the third putting up 24 to the Oles just 13 followed by another 21 point showing in the fourth holding the lead the entire 40 minutes of play. 

St. Kate's will travel to Augsburg University on Wednesday, January 10 at 7 pm. They return to Butler Center on Saturday, January 13 hosting the College of Saint Benedict at 1 pm.
