ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University basketball team tallied an 81-57 win over the Macalester College Scots inside of Leonard Center on Monday evening picking up a non-conference win to improve to 11-5 overall. The game was scheduled to replace the conference game against Carleton that was canceled prior to the start of the 2023-24 season.
Twelve players contributed to the Wildcats 24 point win over the Scots on Monday evening led by junior
Greta Schimnowski putting up 16 points, 12 of which were from behind the three point line.
Hattie Fox had another double-digit performance shooting 100 percent from the line with 14 points and three rebounds. Also in double-digits was senior
Karis Zezza scoring eleven points with a team best five boards. As a team overall, the Wildcats were 20-20 from the free throw line as just the third team to record 100 percent FT percentage in the conference this season.Â
Macalester took a four point lead early in the opening quarter before St. Kate's posted a five point lead after ten minutes of play. The Wildcats had an eleven point advantage with two minutes remaining in the first half as the Scots made back to back three's to cut the lead to five.Â
In the second half of play, St. Kate's started to run away with the game getting ahead by 15 with just a minute remaining in the third. With ten minutes left, St. Kate's closed out the game with 23 points to Macalester's eleven for the sixth consecutive victory for the Wildcats over the Scots.Â
The Wildcats will host the College of St. Scholastica Saints on Wednesday evening at Butler Center at 7 pm.Â
