ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University volleyball team opened the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) season with a three-set sweep at Hamline University on Friday evening. The win advances St. Kate's to 7-3 overall.
Lexie Petrick led all players with nine kills followed by
Madison Fagan with eight finishing the match hitting .571.
Tiffany Tellez led the team in digs with 17 and
Ella Rustand and
Lucia Neuman had 16 and 15 assists, respectively.
The first set saw six tied scores and three lead changes as the Wildcats battled to a 25-23 set win. The second set included four tied scored and two lead changes as St. Kate's hit .346 taking the set 25-21.
The third and final set challenged the Pipers with St. Kate's after the Wildcats ran away with the set after tying it at 4-4.
St. Catherine opens their season at Butler Center on Saturday hosting the College of Saint Benedict for Alumane Day. The match is scheduled for 5 pm in St. Paul.
