ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University Wildcat soccer team opened the 2023 season with a 2-0 win over non-conference foe, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointers. Both goals were scored by senior forward
Ari Green with the first assisted by sophomore
Maddi Springer.
St. Kate's struggled to get a shot on net in the first half posting 15 shots with zero on net. The Pointers tallied four shots in the first half also failing to get one on net.
Things shifted in the second half for both teams with the Wildcats putting up nine shots on goal including both of Green's goals.
Green's first goal came in the 70th minute of play with an assist from Springer making a perfect cross after hustling up the sideline. Green's second goal was the result of a penalty kick opportunity when senior
Amanda Elton drew a foul inside the box.
St. Kate's travels to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Tuesday, September 5 for a 7:30 p.m. non-conference game before returning to St. Kate's Field on Friday, September 8 hosting Pomona-Pitzer at 2 pm.
