MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University tennis team defeated the Hamline University Pipers on Friday afternoon 8-1 at InnerCity Tennis Center in Minneapolis. St. Kate's swept doubles play while picking up wins at 1 through 5 singles. The win improves the Wildcats record to 5-9 with an MIAC record of 3-6.
At No. 3 doubles,
Elsa Joly and
Anna Luksik blanked their opponents with an 8-0 match victory. At No. 1,
Kelsey Dorr and
Sofia Walker won 8-2 and
Monica Zink and
Erica Wing won 8-3 at No. 2.
Dorr, who is ranked No. 20 for singles play in the central region and No. 4 in Region VII edged out the Pipers No. 1 singles player 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2, Walker won 6-2, 6-0 and Joly won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
Luksik was successful at No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory while Zink earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5. The Pipers lone win was at No. 6 singles where
Lily Vang fell 2-6, 6-3, with a tiebreaker of 10-3.
St. Kate's will close out the regular season on Saturday traveling to play St. Olaf College at Owatonna Tennis Center.
