ORLANDO, Fla. -- The St. Catherine University tennis team dropped their third straight match by a score of 5-4, this time to regional foe, Luther College in their first match in Orlando at the USTA National Center. St. Kate's is now 2-5 on the season with two matches remaining in Florida before they return home to complete the MIAC season.
Kelsey Dorr and
Sofia Walker won their respective singles matches at No. 1 and No. 2 while also taking a point at No. 1 doubles. Dorr edged out her opponent 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 while Walker battled for a win at No. 2 with a score of 5-7, 7-6, 10-3. At doubles, they defeated their singles competition by a score of 8-6.
First-year
Anna Luksik tallied the team's fourth point at No. 5 singles falling in the first set 1-6 before taking the second set 6-2 and the tiebreaker 10-8.
Elsa Joly was defeated at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-1 while
Monica Zink lost 6-2, 6-2. It came down to the No. 6 singles match for the win with
Lily Vang putting up a fight but ultimately falling in the tie breaker set 10-3. Vang took set one 6-3 dropping the second set 7-5.
Luther's two other points were scored at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles with Joly and
Erica Wing falling at two 8-6 and Luksik and Zink falling at three 8-3.
St. Catherine will face Olgethrope on Wedensday at 7:30 am CDT again at the USTA National Center in Orlando.
