MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University tennis team returned to competition taking on conference foe, the College of Saint Benedict Bennies. The two teams battled on Friday evening with the Bennies ultimately taking the win 5-4 over the Wildcats. St. Kate's is now 2-4 on the season with a conference record of 1-3 heading into their annual spring break trip.
Kelsey Dorr and
Sofia Walker were responsible for three of the Wildcats points on Friday with an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles plus the team's two singles wins. Dorr tallied a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 while Walker went 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2.
The team's fourth point came from No. 2 doubles where
Elsa Joly and
Erica Wing won 8-7. The final doubles match included
Anna Luksik and
Monica Zink falling 8-6 at No. 3.
Joly played the No. 3 singles match falling 6-4, 6-3 and Zink played at No. 4 with a 7-5, 6-4 loss. Luksik lost at No. 5 in the tiebreaker taking set one 6-2 followed by a 6-1 loss in the second set. The final singles match was played by
Lily Vang with a 6-1, 6-0 loss.
St. Kate's will play three matches in Orlando starting with Luther College on Tuesday followed by Oglethrope and William Smith Wednesday and Thursday. They return to conference play on Sunday, April 2 traveling to Saint Mary's University.
