ST. PAUL, Minn. --
Greta Schimnowski led the Wildcats to a 69-50 non-conference victory over the Buena Vista University Beavers with a season high 21 points. The win puts the Wildcats at 5-4 on the season.
Schimnowski was 5 for 7 from behind the three point line adding two rebounds plus two charity points. Sophomore Kalyee Miron also had a season high shooting 100 percent for three pointers with eleven points, eight assists and four rebounds. Defensively,
Maddie Young led the way with nine boards and seven points followed by
Emme Golembiewski adding eight rebounds with four points.
St. Kate's outscored Buena Vista in the first half holding a 44-21 advantage after two quarters. Nearly half of Schminowski's points were scored in the first ten minutes shooting 100 percent with two of her five three pointers. Miron followed suit making two back to back three point baskets adding eight of her eleven points scored in the second quarter.
Schimnowski remained hot in the third quarter adding another six points including two three pointers while the Wildcats adding five more than the Beavers building a 28 point cushion with ten minutes remaining. Buena Vista inched back in the final quarter doubling St. Kate's points for their most of the game at 18.
St. Catherine has three road games to open 2024 headed to Macalester on January 3, St. Olaf on January 6 and Augsburg January 7. The purple and gold return to Butler Center on Saturday, January 13 hosting the College of Saint Benedict at 1 pm.
