STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team followed suit with the soccer and volleyball teams on Saturday picking up a 2-0 shutout over the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on the road. The Wildcats are now 2-1 on the season facing the Pointers again on Sunday afternoon.
"It's nice to see everyone contributing in a positive way", said head coach
Brad Marshall. "Going on the road and playing a complete 60 minute game, having seniors lead the way and first years following, it was great to see them having a good time after their hard work."
The first two periods were scoreless on both sides of the ice as senior goaltender
Abby Severson made 15 saves compared to the Pointers 19 saves after 40 minutes.
First-year
Julia Wilson earned the game-winner scoring at 1:12 into the third period off a pass from senior
Abby Pirkl. The Wildcats second goal was scored from rookie
Lilly Gillespie for her first collegiate goal with less than four minutes to play. Gillespie's goal was assisted by
Maiah Robert and
Joslin Mumm.
Severson made 21 saves in the game while sophomore
Isabel Burt led the Wildcats with four shots on net.
St. Kate's returns to action on Sunday at 1 pm for game two of the non-conference series against the Pointers.
