ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University swimming and diving team opened the 2023-24 season hosting Concordia University, St. Paul and University of Mary on Friday evening in a double dual. The Wildcats defeated CSP 175.50 to 101.50 and defeated UMary 172 to 86.
In the 200-yard medley relay, St. Kate's finished in first, third, fourth, seventh and ninth.
Ella Hochstetler,
Olivia Weil,
Emma Svendsen, and
Anneke van Oosterom recorded the top-time of 1:51.11.
Sammi Friedrich,
Mia Hocking, and
Nicolette Harvey appeared in the 1000-yard freestyle finishing second, fourth, and fifth. Friedrich's time was 11:28.96, Hocking finished at 12:10.32 while Harvey was just behind at 12:19.97.
Durand led the Wildcats in the 200-yard freestyle with a second place finish of 2:01.81 followed by Jordyn Brotbo in third at 2:03.38. van Oosterom finished fourth with a time of 2:05.01 and
Charlotte Johnson was tenth at 2:17.41.
Mary Morris was the top finisher for the Wildcats in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 29.24 and Chandler was sixth with a time of 29.61.
Brooke Halverson made her debut in the event with a time of 30.69, good for eighth place and
Eloise McKeon was 13th with a time of 34.37.
J. Dombroski was the top finisher in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 32.31 and Weil tied for second with a time of 33.08.
Sierra Hermansen tallied a fourth-best time of 33.98 and
Richanta Pollard with sixth with a time of 35.79.
Maka Chikowero recorded a time of 35.93 and
Mackenzie Marthaler finished eleventh with a time of 39.21.
Svendsen was the top competitor in the 200-yard butterfly finishing with a time of 2:09.05.
Ella Hochstetler was the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.06 and van Oosterom was fourth at 26.58.
Shea Bradley finished fifth at 26.75 and
Ava Hacker was just behind in sixth with a time of 27.08.
Charlotte Johnson tallied a time of 29.09 in 12th place and
Clare Cook was 13th at 29.60.
Hochstetler finished with the top time in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.76 and Grotbo was third at 56.71. Bradley had a fourth place time of 57.22, Harvey was eleventh with a time of 1:02.53, and McKeon finished at 1:03.08 in 13th. Chikowero had a time of 1:03.52 for 14th place and Cook rounded out the team in 17th at 1:05.81.
Svendsen recorded the top-time in the 200-yard backstroke clocking in at 2:07.86 and Durand was third with a time of 2:16.52. Halverson also appeared in the event finishing seventh at 2:24.85.
Dombroski was the runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:32.55 and Hermansen was fourth with a time of 2:40.57. Hocking was the final Wildcat in the event finishing with a seventh place time of 2:46.99.
Andrea Voelker led St. Kate's in the 500-yard freestyle in third at 5:25.40. Weil was next at 5:35.98 in fourth and Friedrich finished fifth at 5:38.87. Cook finished the event eighth at 6:26.35.
Hochstetler won the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 27.11 and Chandler was fourth at 27.62. Morris and Hacker finished eighth and ninth, respectively with Morris at 28.63 and Hacker at 29.08. Pollard finished 12th with a time of 30.17 and McKeon recorded a time of 32.60 in 14th.
Dombroski was the top finisher in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:17.72, van Oosterom was third at 2:21.03, and Weil finished in 2:22.15 for fourth place.
In the final event of the meet, St. Kate's claimed first, fourth, fifth and seventh led by the relay team of Grotbo, Durand, Voelker, and Svendsen with a time of 1:41.75.
The Wildcats compete again on Saturday hosting CSP and UMary again for the St. Kate's Pentathlon starting at 12 pm inside Butler Center Pool.
