ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Wildcats had a rough go of things at Hamline on Saturday, losing by a score of 61-46. Although they forced Hamline into 23 turnovers, they committed 25 themselves and went only one for twenty in three-point attempts. The defeat drops their record to 10-7 overall, 9-5 in the conference.
Bree Glynn put together another double-double, with 14 points and 12 boards.
Sam Orth narrowly missed doing the same, as she scored 14 points and had 9 rebounds.
Both teams started cold from the field, with the Wildcats missing their first five attempts and Hamline missing their first nine.
Sam Orth hit a free throw and then a layup to start the scoring. After the teams traded a few baskets, it looked like the quarter would end with St. Kate's up 9-8, but Hamline's Larisa O'Neil hit a three at the buzzer to take a 2-point lead. (It was her first of six 3-pointers in the game.) To start the second quarter,
Greta Schimnowski scored on a nice drive to the hoop to tie it. Hamline regained the lead, but when
Kaylee Miron was fouled on a put back attempt, she hit both free throws to even the score at 16 with 5:48 left in the half. Those would be the last Wildcat points of the frame, as Hamline scored 8 unanswered to go up 24-16 at the break.
A
Sam Orth layup early in the third quarter cut the lead to 6. After a Hamline three, a
Rachel Randleman and-one made it 27-21. But Hamline went on a run that pushed their lead to 15. When
Sam Orth hit a free throw in the final second of the quarter, the score was 43-32 in favor of the home team. The fourth started up tempo, and saw Hamline get hot from beyond the arc and push their advantage to as much as 22. The Wildcats kept up their effort to slice seven points off that margin, and that's how it ended.
The Wildcats play at Macalester Monday night at 7 pm.
