ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team recorded their first loss at Drake Arena in the 2022-23 season falling 6-1 to the No. 2 ranked team in the country, Gustavus Adolphus. The loss in game one of the series puts the Wildcats 10-6-2 overall with a MIAC record of 4-5-2 facing the Golden Gusties again on Saturday to close out the series.
Rookie
Paige Loidolt put the Wildcats in the lead at 2:43 into the opening period scoring her ninth of the season. The first-year center had help from senior line mate Marie Riemer and junior defenseman
Maiah Robert, each tallying their sixth assist of the season.
St. Kate's held the goal advantage until 15:26 off the clock in the first with the Gusties knotting up the game.
It remained tied for the balance of the first and eleven minutes into the second when the Gusties senior center Tina Press gave the black and gold the lead. Press scored a power play goal 5 minutes later going up 3-1 before Gustavus closed out the period with a score of 4-1 after scoring again at 14:46.
Gustavus scored two final goals in the third period taking a 6-1 victory back to St. Peter.
St. Kate's will travel to Gustavus Saturday, January 28 for a 2 pm game at Lund Arena.
