ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team tallied their second shootout win of the season with a victory over the Hamline University Pipers. The Wildcats are 9-4-2 on the season with an MIAC record of 3-3-2.
It was a one goal game in favor of the Pipers after scoring two minutes into the opening period. Hamline held the lead through the second when senior
Laura Denchfield tied the game with an unassisted goal at 16:02.
St. Kate's struck again with less than a minute in the second off a goal from first-year
Paige Loidolt. The Pipers knotted it up again two minutes into the third period just before rookie
Isabel Burt found the back of the net off a pass from juniors
Emmie Verhaagh and
Maiah Robert. Hamline scored at 11:27 in the third for a 3-3 tie to end regulation.
Both overtime periods were scoreless resulting in a best of three shootout to determine conference points. Fifth-year goaltender,
Elizabeth Kubicek made the first save of the shootout followed by a made goal from Denchfield. The Pipers missed their second attempt and senior
Marie Reimer tallied the final goal to secure the teams second shootout victory over an MIAC team this season.
Up next for the Wildcats is a road game in Winona against Saint Mary's on Friday, January 20 before returning back to Drake Arena on Saturday, January 21 with a 4 pm game to close out the series.
