ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine volleyball team returned to
Butler Center on Friday evening hosting non-conference Buena Vista University taking down the Beavers 3-1. St. Kate's advances to 10-3 on the season with just one non-conference match on the schedule before getting into the bulk of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) schedule.
Buena Vista pressured St. Kate's in the first set hitting .364 as a team to open the match 25-17. The Beavers took an early lead holding on to a four point cushion for most of the set.
The second set started out nearly the same with the Beavers taking an early lead before the Wildcats chopped down their advantage knotting the set at 13-13. The lead went back and forth with the Wildcats finally taking the set 27-25.
In the third, Buena Vista was ahead again until sophomore
Lexie Petrick went on a seven point run to take the lead. Sophomore
Haley Smith finished the set for the Wildcats at the service line with a five-point run for the 25-16 win. In the fourth and final set, St. Kate's carried the momentum with a 12-point victory to claim the match.
Petrick recorded a double-double with ten kills and 19 digs along with four aces and three blocks. Junior
Maggie Rosen had a night with 14 kills hitting .346 and one block. Junior
Claire Segner tallied 16 digs plus four assists while senior
Marissa Gilbertson recorded 25 assists and one ace.
The Wildcats are off until Wednesday, September 28 hosting the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 7 pm inside
Butler Center.
