NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- St. Olaf earned its first MIAC win on Saturday, defeating the Wildcats 62-53; St. Kate's record now stands at 4-2 in the conference. St. Kate's got solid contributions from
Emme Golembiewski (10 points, 4 of 7 from the floor),
Bree Glynn (9 points, 9 boards), and
Karis Zezza (8 points, 2 assists).
But the Oles were too good near the basket, outscoring St. Kate's 42-30 in the paint. St. Olaf's Rachel Kelly led all scorers with 19 points.
After the Oles scored the game's first basket, the Wildcats went on a 9-0 run to go up seven. They were up by 8 points with under a minute in the first quarter, but a three by St. Olaf cut the cushion to 5 points heading into the second. St. Olaf did a nice job against the Wildcats' pressure defense, and their 15-1 run helped them tally 21 in the quarter. At halftime the Oles led 32-24.
St. Olaf continued their hot shooting in the third, hitting 62% of their shots in the quarter. They ended the third up by 15 points. St. Kate's tried to climb back into the game with shots from beyond the arc, but they hit only 3 of 13 attempts from that distance in the second half. A pair of
Emme Golembiewski free throws cut the deficit to nine with just under a minute in the game, but that was the last of the scoring.
The Wildcats are off until December 30th , when they head will face University of Wisconsin-Superior on the road.
