ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine volleyball team lost to the St. Olaf College Oles with two-two point decisions Friday evening at
Butler Center. Junior
Maggie Rosen led the Wildcats in kills (12) with her eighth double-figure match this season.
Claire Segner led the team in digs tallying 14 and in aces with three.
Marissa Gilbertson had 28 assists adding to her career total of 1,462, the fourth-best in program history.
St. Olaf held the advantage in the opening set before the Wildcats chipped away to knot it up at 23-23. Both teams traded the set point four times at the end before the Oles claimed it at 31-29.
St. Kate's carried the momentum into set two gaining an early seven-point lead with Segner at the service line. The Wildcats dominated the set never allowing the Oles to get ahead for the 25-23 win and to tie the match at 1-1.
The third set started with both teams rallying for the lead before the Oles ran away with the set at 14-11 on the scoreboard. The Oles went on to add eleven points to the Wildcats four, including two kills from first-year
Liz Rosen.
The Wildcats didn't give up starting set four going on an early four-point run but the Oles pressured St. Kate's at the net holding them to a final of 25-17.
St. Kate's returns to
Butler Center on Saturday for a 5 pm match against Hamline University for Mental Health Awareness Night.
